The Association of State Floodplain Manager Foundation's Future Leaders Scholarship is a two-year scholarship awarded to a deserving college student entering their junior year of undergraduate studies or the last two years of a 5-year or dual degree undergraduate program in a flood risk management related field. The scholarship provides the recipient with direct financial assistance, mentoring, and support finding a paid summer internship in a relevant professional setting. The scholarship will be in the amount of up to $20,000 per year for two years.

Research Experiences for Undergraduates - Summer 2017

This summer, the University of Central Florida is pleased to host the second year of their National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Site “Preparing the Next Generation of Scholars through Community GIS and Citizen Science.” The program offers fully funded summer research experiences for at least 8 undergraduate students in Belize for 5 weeks and Orlando for 2 weeks. The program is open to all U.S. students and runs June 19-August 4, 2017.

Fleck, Director of the University of New Mexico's Water Resources Program, argues in his new book that the 'water is for fighting over' mantra is actually a myth in the western U.S. When people have less water, they actually use less water. Using the over-allocated Colorado River as an example, Fleck shows that collaboration and cooperation among the seven basin states is far more prevalent than the media accounts would have us believe. USEPA's New Online Training Module “Understanding Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources”

USEPA has released a new online training module, Understanding Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources. This training module is intended to increase water resource professionals’ understanding of the causes of climate change, its potential impacts on water resources, and the challenges that water resource professionals face. The module also describes how federal, state, tribal, and local governments and communities are working to make the United States more resilient to the impacts of climate. The 45-minute training is part of the USEPA Watershed Academy certificate program.
